New Recruitment Standard from DNV Coming in 2026
Recruitment is a rapidly evolving field. New technologies, increased use of data and AI, as well as higher requirements for documentation and quality, have made the need for clear and up-to-date standards greater than ever. DNV has therefore now started work on updating the recruitment standard, including the associated testing standard. The launch is planned for 2026.
The work is already well underway, and the next step in the process is to send the proposed new standard out for consultation to certified users. This gives the industry the opportunity to provide input before the standard is finalized.
A more modern and relevant standard
The new recruitment standard takes into account how recruitment is actually carried out today. This includes clearer requirements for structure, role understanding, documentation, and quality throughout the process—from needs assessment and job analysis to search, selection, evaluation, and follow-up.
At the same time, the standard addresses the increased use of digital tools and tests, including how these should be used in a responsible, verifiable, and fair manner. The goal is to strengthen the quality of recruitment, both for employers and candidates, and contribute to more professional and predictable processes in the market.
Sperton follows – and contributes to – developments
At Sperton, we are following this work closely. Over time, we have worked systematically on the structure, quality, and documentation of our recruitment processes, and we find that much of what is now proposed in the new standard is already well established in how we work in practice.
For us, quality in recruitment is about more than just filling a position. It is about a thorough understanding of needs, clear advice, objective assessments, and respect for both the client and the candidate. An updated and clear standard helps to lift the entire industry in the same direction.
Participation in DNV’s committee
Erik Mellebye-Giertsen, CEO of Sperton Norway, participates in DNV’s committee working to update both the recruitment and test user standards. This gives Sperton direct insight into the development of the standard, while our experience from both Norwegian and international recruitment is incorporated into the work.
Contributing to this work is considered both important and appropriate. Standards set the framework for quality, and by participating in the committee’s work, we can help ensure that the recruitment profession develops in a way that is relevant, practical, and forward-looking.
The road ahead to 2026
When the proposed standard is sent for consultation to certified users, it will be an important step before its final launch. Between now and 2026, both recruitment companies and employers are expected to have to comply with clearer requirements and more structured processes.
For Sperton, this means continuing our efforts to stay ahead of the curve. Not just by complying with the standard, but by helping to ensure that it truly reflects how good recruitment should be carried out in practice.
